The changes that take place in areas of technology are many Fast. In a few years, innovations may emerge that will completely change the market, companies, and professions. That's what happened when digital cameras came to an end to the era of film rolls and which, in turn, were replaced by smartphones.

With this volatility in mind, What can Interface Design professionals expect from the future? Check it out below!

Above average growth

A AIGA Promoted a study and analyzed some data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The report contains data from areas of Design as a whole, from Graphic Design to Web Design.

The study is projected for 10 years (2016-2026) and clearly shows the drastic differences between the Graphic and Interface markets

According to the projections of the study, the areas of Design related to Graphic Editing will grow below the total average (7%)):

  • Graphic Design has an increase of 4%;
  • Art Director has an increase of 5%.

However, the areas of Web Design And of Software Design It has a growth well above average:

  • Web Design grows 15%: an increase of more than 24,000 jobs;
  • Software Design grows 24%: an increase of more than 300,000 jobs.

Changes in thinking

The Design area, during the last century, was seen as an area of industrial thinking. Design was focused only on products and development should end when they reached the “perfect product”.

Thus, higher education courses focused on this industrial thinking when setting up their curriculum for students. Consequently, the most common methods for Designers to enter the labor market were through industrial area.

However, with the rapid advancement of technology and with a market more focused on services than products, the Design area had to adapt to a more user-centered. Leaving aside the concept of “perfect product” and switching to “it's good for now” (MVP - Minimum Viable Product), the Design market understood that it was important to launch its products and receive feedbacks Of your wearers to be able to implement new versions and improvements that meet the customer needs.

In this way, a new era for Design began. Swapping industrial vision for a vision of User-Centered Design.

Changes in learning

One of the greats Design challenges, due to changes in thinking and vision, is to adapt the curricula of college courses.

Schools' concern must be focused on expanding practical and short-term knowledge for students. That way, they'll be able to quickly log in to labor market. In other words, it is important to improve students with training in software and prototyping programs, for example.

However, there must still be the poise of practical and short-term knowledge, with theoretical and fundamental knowledge. In other words, despite the importance of practical knowledge for entering the labor market, students also need Basic and theoretical foundations to become complete professionals.

While formal teaching methods and their curricula do not adapt, it is necessary, more than ever, that interested designers Look for courses and new trends to keep up to date and be able to have better chances in the labor market.

But then what are those trends for Interface Design?

The Future of Interface Design - 6 Trends

Jakob Nielsen, one of the founders of Nielsen Norman Group (nN/g), shared some of his views on some short and long-term trends for UX/UI.

1) Intellectual productivity

Technology, together with UX/UI Design, has to help people by ensuring more time for intellectual productivity. In other words, the way in which we interact with the products must facilitate our decision-making. That way we can Investing our time better instead of losing it with bad interactions.

2) Empower more people

One of the trends in Interface Design is to develop better product interactions with users. Taking the case of computers as an example: few people know how to use computers in a way advanced. That is why one of the roles of design and one of its trends is facilitate the use of the products, to allow more people to know how to fully use all the features of a product/software.

3) Better interfaces for the better age

We will be one generation of elderly people who have interacted with technology most of our lives. Therefore, it is necessary for Product Designers to think of better interactions for older people. Understand the needs and difficulties of this age group that prevent them from having better experiences with the products.

4) Interactive environments

The tendency is for environments to be more common controlled by voice and gestures. Surely, this is a Very big challenge for Interface Design. Bring good user experiences in an environment where they can interact with everything and in a variety of ways.

5) Safety

Due to several scandals about information leaking from various applications and software, a strong trend related to UX/UI Design is protection and security of user data.

When we use the word security, It's not just about passwords and new ways to block apps and products. But yes, Review safety within an interactive environment and understand how this issue can be enhanced.

6) Artificial intelligence

Improvements with regard to current Artificial Intelligence are a major trend for Interface Design.

At some point in the future, AIs need to work more with the concept of User-Centered Design. As it is a new concept, the IAs still present the concept of Technology-centered Design. What we need to think about is how to improve the interaction of this new technology, making the user experience better.
